CHARACTER NAME: Catra
AGE: 20/21-ish (war orphan, so unspecified)
CANON: She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
CANON POINT: Season 5, after being chipped but before being rescued
BACKGROUND/HISTORY: 300 - 500 word challenge? Let's go!

-Fright Zone: the (Etherian) Horde's base of operations.

-The (Etherian) Horde: an evil army trying to take over the world.

-Childhood: abandoned in the Fright Zone at a young age. Found and befriended by Adora. Taken in as a ward of the Horde's second in command, Shadow Weaver. Was not well-tolerated by Shadow Weaver. First threats against her life made when she was still a scraggly kid; things were tense for a while. Over time, realized that Shadow Weaver wouldn't follow through with it as long as Catra was Adora's fave. Felt pretty secure after that.

-Had plans to rule the Horde with Adora, because that was what Adora said she wanted. Catra would have preferred to just elope leave the Fright Zone behind and run away together, but Adora was a stickler for the rules and Shadow Weaver's #1 cadet. So they stayed, and Catra convinced herself that it would be one day worth it.

-Then Adora left, after finding a magic sword in the woods they weren't supposed to have gone out to. Catra did not like this.

-So, like, Catra went a little bit crazy.

-She, in no particular order:
Took Adora's position as Force Captain.
Used everything she knew about Adora against her.
Blew up an ice palace and kidnapped Adora's friends.
Let Shadow Weaver PG-13 torture one of those friends.
Usurped Shadow Weaver's place as the Horde's 2IC.
Used Science to disrupt the entire magical flow of Etheria.
Used that distraction to lead a strike against Bright Moon, the rebellion's heart and also coincidentally where Adora was living. (*It was not a coincidence.)
Did not dispose of Shadow Weaver when instructed, and accidentally enabled her escape from the Horde's prisons.
Was sent to die in the Crimson Wastes (a desert wasteland) for it.
Usurped an established gang leader's position and took control of the desert.
Kidnapped Adora.
Sent one of her best friends to die on Beast Island (Etheria's Australia).
Opened a reality-destroying portal.
Became One with the portal.
Tried to kill Adora in the portal.
Came out of the portal with nightmares and Regrets.
Usurped Hordak's throne from under him, and allowed him to remain the Horde's figurehead while Catra called the shots.
Led an army against Adora.
Almost conquered Etheria.
Narrowly lost due to her spy turning on her.
More Regrets, as her spy highlighted all her personal failings to her.
Got teleported up onto the actual Horde's spaceship.
Watched Hordak get mind blitz'd.
Stuck her neck out for Glimmer (Adora's friend) to keep her from getting blitz'd too.
Tried to ingratiate herself to Horde Prime.
Failed.
Yote Glimmer off the evil alien's ship to prevent Adora from trying to rescue her and getting killed.
Aaaaand got chipped with a mind-control device for her betrayal.

-You know, normal grudge stuff.

During all of this, Catra also alienated everyone who ever called themselves her friend, and essentially became a tyrant. (Those two things are related.)

PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY: N/A

PERSONALITY: Catra is snide, sarcastic, belligerent, and has no respect for authority. This is usually because she's a jerk, but is also something of a defense mechanism. In the Horde, weakness isn't to be shown, lest you face the mocking of your peers. As Catra's life progressed from one hardship to another, it re-instilled the belief that niceness = weakness, until it came to a head in the Crimson Waste: where the meaner you are, the more people listen to you. It was a lesson that Catra already knew - the Horde ruled through fear - but it was the first time that she got to use fear and intimidation as her weapons, and it was exhilarating to her. For the first time ever, she was fully in control.

So the link between 'mean' and 'freedom' got pretty well established there, and carried through into her takeover of the Horde. As the Horde's second-in-command, Catra was an iron-fisted commander. She ran her troops ragged and became more vicious in her plotting, freely using anger as her driving force. It kept giving her the results she wanted, so why would she stop?

One by one, Catra's attitude picked off the people she'd been close to. Then Catra's spy, the person she literally paid to put up with her, turned on her; their betrayal costing her the war. Their parting gift to her, right before she got beamed up onto Horde Prime's ship, was a montage of the people she'd blamed for leaving/hating her - and the key note: it wasn't them who ruined everything. It was her.

She might have been able to sink back into angry denial about it, but being alone on an evil alien's ship gave Catra a lot of time to think, and start reconciling that the problem in her life is herself.

Catra has control issues, mostly because she's never really had control over her own life. From childhood, her life's been restricted by the Horde. Whatever free actions she did take would usually end in reprimand or punishment, as Catra's always been too curious, too bored, and too much of an explorer/thrill seeker to remain within the bounds of what was permitted. Although she became a Force Captain and eventually led the Horde, Catra never experienced the freedom the cadets all thought being a real soldier would give them. She was still under Shadow Weaver's command, then Hordak's; and by the time she was calling the shots, Catra was too caught up in the war to stop.

Beneath the control issues and defensive snark, Catra is a loyal, protective, and dedicated person. She has the capacity to be kind, but there's a lifetime of conditioning that needs to be battled through before she can demonstrate it. Since acknowledging that she's the issue in her life, Catra's taking baby steps to fixing that; starting with reining in her well-developed anger issues and cutting down on her tendency to lash out.

SUITABILITY: She got sent to an abandoned wasteland to die and ended up taking the place over, she'll be fine. Catra is resourceful and a survivor. All Horde cadets are taught how to navigate the wilderness, and Catra shines in that area - being a literal cat person helps. She's used to fighting for her life, and though she doesn't like to admit it, does also (habitually, almost) plan for others' wellbeing. Having managed an army, she's become unwillingly adept at resource management; and she's quite used to using her surroundings to their fullest extent.

When it comes to science, mechanics, and magic, Catra knows how to delegate. Those areas are not her strengths, though she does give any necessary aid where she can. (She's become really good at scavenging for ancient tech for other people's experiments.)

ABILITIES/SKILLS: Catra's abilities are all based on her physiology/mental capacity; no magic here.

Being a cat person, Catra has more than a few feline traits. She's got clawed hands and feet, which have been shown to be strong enough to withstand tearing through metal. She's got fangs, night vision, good balance, a tendency to end up in high places, and is very athletically inclined. She can comfortably scratch her ear with her foot, so her flexibility is way up there.

Her sense of smell isn't specified to be as sensitive as a cat's, but Catra has tracked people via scent, and was able to locate someone hiding in a vent through their smell. By the same token, it's not explicitly stated how good her hearing is - but she's able to listen in in conversations happening a good distance away.

She's a trained soldier, and is experienced with firearms, war machines, and melee weapons. She's also taught herself to use a whip. She's got all the standard skills you'd expect of a soldier - basic field-based first aid, survival/wilderness training, etc. Catra is also proficient with using technology, though she can't put anything together herself.

INVENTORY: Coming directly from captivity on Horde Prime's ship, Catra has nothing.

Samples;

SAMPLE ONE: Communicating!
SAMPLE TWO: thinking
SAMPLE THREE: haha she's a very combative person, all her threads are conflict conflict, Catra's specialty.
